Drtunmin.com was created by me, Tun Min. I am a medical doctor working in NHS UK as General Practitioner ( family physician). I graduated in 2013 and since then I have been working as a clinical doctor since then.
One of the most common questions I get asked during my consultation is about supplements. To be absolutely honest, I always thought probiotics, and supplements are all rubbish as there are no actual clinical guidelines supporting the use of those and the market is poorly regulated and dominated by unrealistic claims from pharmaceutical companies.
As I see more and more patients over the last 10 years, I came to realize, practicing medicine is not about treating the disease, it is also about treating an actual human being. Although we clinicians like to be experts and know everything, there is always something that we can never explain whether it is a placebo effect or whether it is something medical scientists have not found yet.
During my 10 years of clinical practice, I have seen more and more patients telling me their symptoms are improved by some supplements or probiotics and of course, I always denied their claims at least in my mind.
Then I started to read about supplements and probiotics and their effects and found so many interesting theories and how these could help patients.
When I spoke with my doctor colleagues they always have pretty much the same opinion as me, thinking those are useless and a waste of money.
I found there is a huge gap between doctors and patients on this topic. So, I created this blog for both doctors and patients regarding understanding and updates about probiotics and supplements.
